Frequently Asked Questions

Everything bowlers ask before their first Cash Lanes night.

Substitutes

How do we use a substitute?

Notify a league officer before the sub bowls. New substitutes may be added through Week 12 of each half. In Weeks 13-15 only a sub who has already bowled at least 3 sessions that half may be used, unless officers approve a legitimate emergency.

What average does a substitute use?

Their own established Cash Lanes average. If they have none, officers assign a fair entering average from verifiable bowling history.

Does a substitute share in the payout?

No. Standings payouts go to the two rostered team positions. Anything a team chooses to give a sub is entirely up to the team and is not administered by the league.

Joining & the basics

What Cash Lanes is and how to get on a team.

What is Cash Lanes?

Cash Lanes is a USBC-sanctioned scratch doubles bowling league at Lucky Strike Rochester (2400 Empire Blvd., Webster, NY). Teams of two bowl every Tuesday with a 6:30 PM start.

When and where does the league bowl?

Tuesday nights at Lucky Strike Rochester. Bowling begins at 6:30 PM and the lanes must be cleared by 9:30 PM.

How long is the season?

30 weeks, split into two separate 15-week halves. Standings reset to zero after Week 15, and the second half is scored as a brand-new 15-week competition. First-half results stay on the record.

How many bowlers are on a team?

Two. Cash Lanes is a doubles league bowled scratch (no handicap).

Can I join without a partner?

Yes. Register on your own and the league will work to pair you with a teammate before opening night. You can request this right from the registration page.

How do I register?

Complete the official Cash Lanes registration form. Submitting it also acknowledges that you have read and agreed to the league rules, current USBC requirements, and Lucky Strike Rochester house policies.

Dues & payments

What you owe, when, and what happens if it is late.

How much are weekly dues?

$25 per bowler each week. Envelopes are collected after Game 1 unless officers announce a different time.

What happens if I do not pay on time?

You may not carry a balance more than one league week past due. If you bowl without paying, that amount becomes past due and must be paid by the envelope collection during the following session. If either teammate is still more than one week behind at that deadline, the team forfeits all 8 points from the unpaid week. Your partner can pay the balance to keep the team current.

Does being behind on dues affect anything else?

Yes. While you are behind you cannot enter any pot, side game, raffle, or blind doubles, and a team that is not fully current cannot receive prize-fund payouts until the balance is paid in full.

What if my partner is absent — do we still owe their dues?

A team is not forced to forfeit solely because dues were not paid for an absent bowler or a vacancy. When that bowler returns, the outstanding balance must be resolved before they bowl.

Where can I see whether I am paid up?

Log in and open My Cash Lanes. Your dashboard shows your dues status and warns you well before any forfeit deadline.

Scoring, averages & absences

How points, averages, blinds and prebowls work.

How are points scored each week?

8 points are available per week: 2 for each of the three games and 2 for the total series.

How is my average established?

You establish a current Cash Lanes season average after 9 league games (about 3 weeks). That average carries through both halves and only resets when a new season begins. Prior seasons do not carry forward for blind scoring.

What is my blind score if I am absent?

170 until you have completed 9 games this season. After 9 games, your blind is your current Cash Lanes average minus 10 pins.

When am I marked blind?

If you are not present by Frame 4 of Game 1 you are marked blind for that game. Arriving after Frame 4, you may start with the next game, subject to lineup and substitute rules.

Can I prebowl if I know I will miss a week?

Yes, up to 3 sessions per 15-week half, with advance officer approval and completed before the session you will miss. Prebowls are not allowed in Weeks 14 and 15 except for an approved exceptional circumstance.

Pots, prizes & payouts

Side games and the prize fund.

How does the prize fund work?

The standings-based prize fund is top-heavy and pays the top 8 teams under the league’s announced payout structure. Final amounts depend on money collected, approved expenses, and the number of eligible teams.

What do I need to qualify for a team payout?

Be an official rostered member, bowl at least 5 league weeks in that half, stay in good standing, and be paid in full on all required dues.

What is blind doubles and how do I enter?

Blind doubles is an optional side pot where entrants are randomly paired and the highest combined score wins. Enter and pay before play begins or by the announced cutoff. You must be current on dues to enter any pot.

Do side games affect the standings?

No — participation in optional side games does not affect league standings unless a written league rule specifically says so.

Conduct & the center

House rules and sportsmanship.

What conduct is expected?

Cash Lanes is competitive but threatening, hostile, or disruptive behavior is not tolerated — on the lanes, in the settee and concourse, in the parking areas, or in league group chats. Discipline can range from a warning up to removal from the league.

What are the main Lucky Strike house rules?

No outside food or drink unless approved, bowling shoes on while bowling, do not cross the foul line, stop and notify staff if the approach is unsafe, and no harassment or discrimination. Center management has final authority over facility safety and policy.

How do I raise a scoring or rules dispute?

Tell a league officer as soon as you know — ideally before the series ends so it can be documented. Officers may review score sheets, payment records, center video, and USBC rules before deciding.
